Real estate market and investment potential Göttingen
The district town of Göttingen is a young city, with a student share of 20 percent. The long-established Georg-August-University and two other universities have a strong influence on the city, both in terms of population and economic location factors.

Göttingen was the first big city in 1964, which is due to various incorporations at that time.
Göttingen is relatively centrally located in Germany, on the A7 and A38 motorways. In particular, the A7 is an important north-south route in Germany and runs from the Danish border near Flensburg via Hamburg and Hanover to the Austrian border in the Allgäu. The federal roads that run through the Göttingen city area are the B3 and the B27.
In Göttingen, both ICs and ICEs of the German railways stop, with buses running within the city. The nearest airports are a little further away – Paderborn Lippstadt is closest. Airports in Erfurt and Hanover are also accessible.
Göttingen is considered a location for science, education and research. In addition to the universities, five Max Planck Institutes and the German Aerospace Center are located there. Forty-five Nobel laureates came or come from Göttingen – an immensenumber.
Furthermore, many companies from growth sectors such as photovoltaics and biotechnology are based in Göttingen. Another important economic focus of the city is measurement technology. Unemployment in Göttingen stood at 5.8 percent in August 2018, a good figure in Germany.

Between 1950 and 1969, 34.54 buildings were built. 5.77 percent of all houses have been standing since 2000 or later.
Single-family houses are gaining popularity in Göttingen. There are 8,972 single-family homes in Göttingen, which is 48.42 percent of all residential buildings. 3,376 of these detached houses are detached, or 18.31 percent of all residential buildings.
